Zalli was established in 2001 in Gabrovo, in the centre of Bulgaria, a city known for its technological innovations and the expertise of its workers in the textile sector. The plant deals with knitwear, from the cutting of the fabrics to the packaging of the finished items, and produces mainly underwear, t-shirts, shirts, swimwear and leggings.
In the 20 years since the factory’s foundation, employee numbers have risen from 60 to 985 and 90% of them are women. There are no expats at the plant, so most of the coordination and management of operations is in the hands of local employees. Thanks to its experience and proximity to the headquarters, Zalli plays a very important role in the company’s supply chain, guaranteeing high-quality items and versatile processes for a variety of goods categories.
The plant is now one of the largest in Bulgaria, and is renowned for the employment and development opportunities it offers all its employees. The company offers a large number of employee benefits, such as free language and training courses, transport to the factory and medical and counselling services for all staff. In the many green areas around the plant, a football pitch and basketball court have also been built, and are used during lunch breaks in spring and in the evenings, at the end of shifts.
Zalli is known in the district for contributing to the organisation of the city’s annual festival, and for sponsoring the football and handball youth teams. The factory also donates healthcare materials to local hospitals.
In July 2020, the factory obtained certification for the use of 100% renewable electrical energy, and in 2021, all the lights were replaced with LED technology, with the aim of making energy consumption more efficient. In addition, as much waste as possible is separated and recycled in the plant, and work is under way to replace plastic with biodegradable materials. With a view to improving the working environment for employees, an outdoor recreation area has been created, in which over 100 trees have been planted.
The people who work for us have always been our most valuable resource, and no presentation of our factories would be complete without a word from them. Here are the stories of those who produce our items every day:
