Omega Line Vavuniya was founded on 3 August 2013, in Vavuniya. This plant is located in the North of Sri Lanka, far from the other proprietary factories of the company, and was founded following a request for help on the part of the Sri Lankan government: 2009 saw the end in the northern regions of a civil war that had lasted over 25 years, and a return to normality was essential for the local population. This is why – just four years after the end of the fighting – Omega Line Vavuniya was officially inaugurated by the former President of the Republic of Sri Lanka, with the aim of providing employment for more than 2,669 people. Unlike for the other factories in Sri Lanka, this investment was of a cultural as well as a financial nature, because the northern region required a different approach, given the different population with different habits and even a different language.
Compared to the other plants in the region, Omega Line Vavuniya does not produce goods for external companies, which guarantees not only excellent efficiency, but also a uniquely flexible production process. The strength of the factory is its relationship with its employees, and in just a few years, a friendly climate has been created at all levels of the company, thanks to an open, dialogue-based policy.
The factory offers all its employees free meals and transport, and each year, productivity incentives are established both for individuals and work groups, so as to encourage a merit-based approach and reward teamwork. Added to this are loans at extremely low interest rates for all employees wishing to purchase a car or a home.
As mentioned earlier, the foundation of the factory allowed the local community to obtain the independence and economic stability that were such a pressing necessity following a crisis that had lasted more than 25 years. In addition, 88% of the company’s workforce is made up of women, which has allowed for the development of female empowerment dynamics, thanks to the on-going professional – and personal – training the factory offers all its workers. In 2020, the factory donated some €50,000 for projects and activities in the areas of culture, sport and social care.
The people who work for us have always been our most valuable resource, and no presentation of our factories would be complete without a word from them. Here are the stories of those who produce our items every day:
