Gordon was founded in 2012 near Subotica, a region in Serbia close to the Hungarian border. The city of Subotica is one of the most highly industrialised in Serbia, so the challenge for Gordon was to identify a number of unique features that would guarantee the company’s survival. In keeping with the corporate principles, Gordon’s main strength is the attention paid to its employees, who are guaranteed a clean, safe working environment, salaries that motivate them, health insurance, free lunches and transport, and, in general, a very high quality of employment.
Just eight out of the company’s 1,806 employees are expats; this is indicative of the opportunities for growth and to build a managerial career within the company. In addition, 94% of Gordon’s workforce are women, who are provided with plenty of support so they can acquire increasing financial independence and security. Gordon is much appreciated in the city of Subotica, both for the contribution it has made to employment, and in 2020, for the help given to the community by donating face masks to combat the pandemic.
As regards the environment, the factory undertakes to reduce waste to a minimum by eliminating the unnecessary consumption of plastic and paper, and by training employees to adopt more eco-friendly behaviours. Also planned is the installation of LED lighting able to cut energy consumption by around 50%. Lastly, by the end of 2021, 100% of the electricity purchased will come from renewable sources.
